Why Ocean Wave

A neighborhood favorite in Virginia-Highland

For years, Ocean Wave has been a quiet Atlanta staple — the kind of place regulars bring first-time visitors and out-of-town family. Here's what keeps them coming back.

Fresh sushi, made to order

Every roll is cut and plated when you order it — never pre-made. We source fresh fish and hand-select cuts of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and seasonal specials so the flavor and texture speak for themselves.

Authentic Thai kitchen

Curries simmered from scratch, wok-fired noodles, and grilled specialties built on traditional recipes. Sweet, sour, salty, and spicy — balanced the way Thai cooking is meant to be.

The house

A Virginia-Highland fixture

For years, Ocean Wave has been part of the North Highland neighborhood—a familiar place to gather over lunch, dinner, and a seat at the bar. Discover the people, traditions, and hospitality behind the restaurant.

Lobster sushi roll was a hit! I wasn't expecting so much meat on top but it was fresh and a compliment to sushi. We got the spicy tuna roll and volcano roll as well. The margaritas were strong and tasted exactly how you'd expect. I'm really glad to have found a new sushi restaurant with a nice balance of classic and creative rolls. The ingredients were fresh and I was impressed with each roll. Service was great and we didn't need a reservation despite it being 7pm on a Thursday.

Wow. What a surprise. Didn't plan to eat here — just happened. And I'm very glad it did. The very best Thai I've eaten in all of the Atlanta area, if not in the world. It's really that good. The room is warm, the service was attentive without hovering, and every dish came out balanced and thoughtful. I'll be back. Very, very soon.

This is the best sushi in town, in my opinion. I enjoy visiting with my family because they offer a wide variety of choices that cater to everyone — traditional nigiri for me, creative rolls for the kids, and Thai favorites for my husband. The fish is always pristine, the rice is seasoned just right, and the service is consistently excellent. It has quietly become our neighborhood standard.

This was a great spot for sushi and Asian cuisine on a Sunday afternoon. It was my first time there but my friends go often, and I was happy to accompany them. The service was fast, the room had a lively but easy hum, and the food was genuinely delicious — the curry had real depth and the rolls were cut cleanly and plated beautifully. Can't wait to go back again!

Stumbled in on a rainy Tuesday and left planning our next visit before we'd paid the check. The pad see ew had that smoky wok char you almost never find outside of Bangkok, and the yellowtail jalapeño was cold, clean, and cut with real care. Staff clocked that it was our first time and quietly walked us through the menu without making a production of it. Easily a new regular for us.

Came for a birthday dinner with a group of eight and every single plate landed hot, on time, and gorgeous. The green curry had a slow build of heat that actually tasted like fresh chilies instead of just spice, and the salmon nigiri was buttery. Our server remembered every allergy at the table without writing anything down. This is what a neighborhood restaurant should feel like.

The love boat is a whole event — beautifully arranged, generous, and everything on it was clearly cut to order. Pair it with a couple of the house cocktails and you've got a proper night out. Room is dim in the right way, music is at a volume where you can actually talk. Rare combination in Atlanta right now.
